Philodendron serpens

Stem scandent, leafy towards the apex, and covered with persistent dark brown fibrous scales. LEAVES: Petiole green, terete, sub-equal in length to the blade, covered with rather thick, subulate, short, dense recurved emergences. Blade bright ('laete') green, thinly coriaceous, broadly sagittate, apex acute or apiculate, base cordate, 30-45 cm long, 14-18 cm wide. Primary lateral veins several, slender, spreading from the midrib at a very obtuse angle, arcuate towards the margin; basal veins 3-4, joined together into a rather thick intramarginal vein. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle thick, terete, robust, white, slightly longitudinally rugulose. Spathe thick, fleshy, 12-14 cm long, tube ovoid, closed, externally pale pink, internally pale purple, blade boat-shaped, open, apex apiculate, pale yellowish-green, equal in length to the tube. Spadix white, thick, upright, cylindric, apex sub-acute, equal in length or slightly shorter than the spathe. Pistils depressed, 5-6-angled, 5-6-locular, stigma sessile, slightly 5-6-lobed.
