Philodendron hatschbachii

Hemi-epiphytic vine. Stem apex pale green becoming greenish-grey in the mature parts, internodes 1-10 cm long. Prophyll 17.5 x 1.55 cm, linear-triangular, pale green. LEAVES: Petiole 8-27 cm long. Leaf blade 15-32 x 4-12 cm, elliptic, oblong to ovate-oblong, apex acute, base rounded to almost cuneate, distinctly paler on lower surface, chartaceous; anterior division 13.5-29 x 4-12 cm, primary lateral veins 4-5 per side, weakly differentiated; posterior divisions 1.5-3 x 2-6 cm or absent. INFLORESCENCE: 1 per floral sympodium, peduncle 4 cm long. Spathe 11-13 x 3.5 cm, boat-shaped, curved, weakly constricted, green with vinaceous grooves, blade creamish-green to cream outside, cream inside. Spadix curved, 6-13 cm long, male zone 4-6.5 cm long, greenish-cream; intermediate male sterile zone 0.5-2 cm long, cream; apical male sterile zone 0.2-0.5cm long, cream; female zone 2.8-4.5 cm long, pale green. Flowers: stamens 1.5-2 x 1.5-1.8 mm; apical staminodes 1.5-2 x 1.5-1.8 mm; intermediate staminodes 2.5-3 x 1.8-2 mm; gynoecium 3.5 x 2.5 mm, green to creamish green, ovary 10-12-locular, ovules 4 per locule, placentation sub-basal. Philodendron hatschbachii is a species of plant in the genus Philodendron native to southeastern Brazil in the states of Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro. Critically endangered, it is a hemiepiphytic climber that grows in the tropical Atlantic forests of Brazil at 800–920 meters (2,620–3,020 ft). It named after Gerdt Guenther Hatschbach, a prolific Brazilian botanist who collected the first specimens.
