As currently known, this is a locally restricted endemic, known from only a handful of collections, all of them from adjacent localities at the northern end of the Serranía de Huanchaca around 13 ° 39´S and 60 ° 50´W at 200 – 400 (– 850) m., Peña & Foster 223 (holotype NY photo!; isotype USZ!); Gutierrez et al. 888 (K!, USZ!); Killeen et al. 5412 (K!, USZ!). A distinctive species with a large exserted efoliate panicle of globose capitula and whole plant densely hispid with 2 – 4 mm setae. One of three Huanchaca endemics along with M. suberosa and M. rastrera.
